The People's Transit - Proposed Davao LRT (Phase-1 Project)
An architectural thesis study prepared for the feasibility of Davao Metropolitan Area Light Rail Transit (LRT Phase-1 Project).
Davao City was established as a chartered city during 1936. The urban planning of the city is a grid system of roads within the downtown area but not projected and assumed the future usage by the increasing number of population, modern vehicles, sprouting structures and satellite urbanization.
Today, Davao City has grown metropolitan where its suburban towns becoming as well populated due to its rapid economic growth.
Transporation and traffic issues are the daily struggles in the mainstream and motor vehicles are continually growing by 7.1% annual growth rate thus congesting national roads.
Although the Department of Public Works and Highways is trying to address through road-right-of-way widening projects but seems other key issues still bring negative impact to the natural environment – the CO² Emissions in large volume.
In this study, the government gave the greenlight to a feasibility study of the mass transit, which favorable aspects of its system provides long-term solution of the city’s mobility issues.
